WATERVILLE VALLEY, N.H. - The Plymouth State University men's ski team continued to dominate while the Panther women's team finished in the middle of the pack Saturday in the slalom event at the PSU Winter Carnival at frigid Waterville Valley Resort.
The Panther men's squad cruised to a first place among 10 schools in the team scoring, while PSU finished fifth among 10 schools in the women's standings. The PSU men are 3-for-3 in victories so far this season, while the women have been consistent as well with a fourth and two fifth-place finishes.
Junior All-America Tyler Barlow (South Burlington, Vt.) led the Panther men's contingent, finishing runner-up among the more than 80 skiers. PSU finished with seven of the top 13 overall as six other Panthers enjoyed top finishes - junior Chad Demetry (Francestown, N.H.) in fifth, sophomore Skip Bartlett (Silver Lake, N.H.) in sixth, sophomore Rob Kiely (New London, N.H.) in 10th, freshman Topher Harlow (North Conway, N.H.) in 11th, senior Brent Grygiel (Windham, Maine) in 12th, and senior Garrett Lashar (Kingfield, Maine) in 13th.
The men easily cruised to the win, finishing ahead of (in order) Colby-Sawyer, Boston College, Babson, UMass Amherst, MIT, UConn, Saint Anselm, Brown, and New England College.
Senior All-America Whitney Swaffield (Wolfeboro, N.H.) continues to anchor the PSU women's squad as she finished eighth overall. Sophomore Kristina Hoch (China, Maine) was the next Panther finisher, placing 11th, while classmate Kelsey Real (Lanesboro, Mass.) came in 20th.
Colby-Sawyer won the women's team scoring, finishing ahead of (in order) Brown, Boston College, UMass, PSU, Smith, MIT, Saint Anselm, Babson and UConn.
The PSU Winter Carnival continues on Sunday with the giant slalom races.
