HENNIKER, N.H. - Plymouth State University's alpine ski teams completed the regular season of the Eastern Collegiate Ski Conference Saturday with the slalom race at the Saint Anselm Winter Carnival at Pat's Peak.
The Panther men placed first among 10 schools in Saturday's slalom, and finish first as a team for the season in the MacConnell Division of the ECSC. The Panther women finished sixth among 10 schools in Saturday's slalom and end up fifth as a team in the division for the season. The top five men's and women's teams advance to the Eastern Regional Championships at Waterville Valley on Feb. 26-27.
Sophomore Topher Harlow (North Conway, N.H.) and freshman Melissa Caflisch (Clymer, N.Y.) took top honors for the Panthers. Harlow placed third among 88 skiers in Saturday's slalom, his eighth top-five finish this season, and concluded the season ranked second in the overall individual alpine. Caflisch recovered from a fall Saturday to place 11th among 65 racers in the slalom, and end the season ranked second in the women's individual alpine standings.
Joining Harlow as top finishers for PSU in the men's slalom were freshman Jason Hey (Northboro, Mass.) in sixth, junior Skip Bartlett (Silver Lake, N.H.) in seventh, senior Tyler Barlow (South Burlington, Vt.) in 12th, junior Bill Halberstadt (Concord, N.H.) in 15th, and senior Joey Miller (Auburn, Maine) in 16th.
Following Caflisch as top Panther finishers in the women's slalom race were freshman Kara Marvelli (Franconia, N.H.) in 16th and freshman Meaghann McKenney (Hubbardston, Mass.) in 24th.
The Panther men's team tied for second at the Eastern Regionals last season and went on to finish runner-up at the national championships. The Panther women placed third at Regionals and went to bring home fifth place at nationals.
