PSU Men’s Skiers place 4th in slalom at USCSA National Championships

McCALL, Idaho - Three Plymouth State University men's skiers earned All-America honors Saturday with a top 15 finish in the slalom race Saturday at the US Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association's National Championships at Brundage Mountain, leading the Panthers for a fourth place among 19 schools in the slalom team standings.

(From left) PSU sophomore Topher Harlow (North Conway, N.H.), senior Chad Demetry (Francestown, N.H.) and junior Skip Bartlett (Silver Lake, N.H.) placed 10th, 11th and 15th, respectively, among the 106 racers to earn spots on the All-American Team. (The top 15 placers comprise the All-America Team.) PSU had all five of its skiers finish in the top 20, as senior Tyler Barlow (South Burlington, Vt.) and freshman Jason Hey (Northboro, Mass.) just missed All-America honors with 16th and tied-for-19th place finishes.

The Panthers had all five in the top 16 after the first slalom run and were in second place, but slipped to fourth place after the second run. Defending champion Sierra Nevada College captured first place, followed by Rocky Mountain College and the University of Massachusetts.

The fourth place in the slalom gave Plymouth State sixth place in the men's combined alpine team standings.  Rocky Mountain upset Sierra Nevada for the championship, with Colby-Sawyer and UMass tied for third.  The University of British Columbia finished fifth, with PSU sixth and Boston College and Minnesota-Duluth tied for seventh.  Babson College and Michigan Tech rounded out the top 10.

Two Panthers also earned All-America accolades in the combined alpine.  Harlow combined his 11th in the GS with his 10th in the slalom for a seventh place in the individual men's combined, while Demetry combined his 23rd in the GS with his 11th in the slalom for a 14th place in the combined.

The PSU men qualified for the USCSA National Championships by tying for second place at last month's Eastern Regional Championships.
