PSU Skiers stumble in slalom at Whiteface Mountain

Watanabe tops Panther men; Lundmark leads women

            LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – The Plymouth State University ski teams did not have their best day on Saturday in the slalom race at the Saint Lawrence University Carnival at Whiteface Mountain.

            The Panther men had three skiers finish in the top 40 among the 93 skiers, finishing 10th out of 13 teams in the slalom standings, while the Panthers women's squad had two racers in the top 50 among 77 who started and finished 13th overall.

            Freshman Takehiro Watanabe (Sapporo, Japan) was the top finisher for the Panther men, placing 23rd, while sophomore Andrew Beck (Lake George, N.Y.) placed 35th and freshman Garrett Quimby (Dunstable, Mass.) was 39th.  Senior Chris Beadon (Ridgefield, Conn.) was in 13th place after the first run but straddled a gate at the bottom of his second run and was disqualified.

            Freshman Caroline Lundmark (Skelleftea, Sweden) was the top Panther woman finisher for the second straight day, crossing the line in 48th place, while junior Leigh Anne Connors (Lake Placid, N.Y.) was right behind in 49th.

            The Panther teams will be back in action next Friday and Saturday at the Colby College Carnival at Sugarloaf Mountain (Maine).
