Martin leads Panther men; Connors paces Panther women
CARRABASSET VALLEY, Maine – The Plymouth State University men's ski team posted a solid sixth-place finish Friday in the giant slalom portion of the Colby College Carnival at Sugarloaf Mountain.
The Panther men were sixth out of 13 teams with 59 points, just two points back of fifth-place Saint Michael's College. The Panther women ended up in 13th place with 17 points, two points behind 12th-place Boston College. The University of Vermont captured both titles, outscoring runner-up Middlebury College in the men's standings and second-place University of New Hampshire in the women's scoring.
Freshmen Max Martin (Salt Lake City, Utah) and Garrett Quimby (Dunstable, Mass) posted top finishes for PSU, with Martin coming in 22nd and Quimby 26th among the 68 racers. All six Panther men finished both runs, with senior Chris Beadon (Ridgefield, Conn.) placing 31st, sophomore Andrew Beck (Lake George, N.Y.) 33rd, senior Parker Spear (Sodus Point, N.Y.) 34th, and freshman Takehiro Watanabe (Sapporo, Japan) 38th.
Junior Leigh Anne Connors (Lake Placid, N.Y.) and freshman Caroline Lundmark (Skelleftea, Sweden) posted the top finishes for the Panther women. Connors placed 39th among the 64 entries in the women's field and Lundmark finished 42nd.
The teams will be back on the mountain Saturday at Sugarloaf for the slalom portion of the Colby Carnival.
