PSU Men’s Ski Team ninth in slalom at Middlebury Carnival

Panther women 13th; GS set for Saturday

            MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Plymouth State University men's ski team finished in ninth place Friday in the slalom portion of the Middlebury College Carnival at the Middlebury Snowbowl, while the Panther women's squad ended up 13th.

            The Panther men had three racers finish in the top 48 among the 87 who started. Senior Chris Beadon (Ridgefield, Conn.) was the top Panther finisher, placing 30th, while freshman Takehiro Watanabe (Sapporo, Japan) crossed the line in 37th and freshman Max Martin (Salt Lake City, Utah) was 48th.

            The University of Vermont won the men's team scoring with 126 points, with host Middlebury (111) edging the University of New Hampshire (108) for second place.  PSU was ninth with 41 points, behind eighth-place Williams College (55) and ahead of 10th-place Boston College (30).

            Junior Leigh Anne Connors (Lake Placid, N.Y.) was the only Panther women's racer to finish both runs, taking 54th place among the 84 skiers.

            Dartmouth College won the women's team scoring with 134 points, with UVM second (98) and Middlebury third (89). PSU was 13th with seven points.

            The teams will be back on the mountain Saturday at Middlebury for the giant slalom.
