PSU Ski Teams struggle in slalom at Colby Carnival
Lemgart, Zanca pace Panther women
CARRABASSET VALLEY, Maine – Freshmen Charlotte Lemgart (Vaerloese, Denmark) and Mariah Zanca (Camden, Maine) were the top finishers for the Plymouth State University alpine ski teams Saturday as the Panthers competed in a slalom race at the Colby College Carnival at Sugarloaf Resort.
Lemgart finished in 28th place among the 83 skiers in the women's race, while Zanca crossed the finish line in 35th place. Lemgart was in 36th after the first run and moved up eight spots after her second attempt. Zanca was in 46th place after one run and moved up 11 places. They were the only two Panther women to complete both runs.
The course at Sugarloaf also got the best of the Panther men's squad, as all six skiers posted a DNF for the day.
The University of Vermont captured both the men's and women's team title, the men finishing ahead of runner-up Dartmouth College, while the women edged out the University of New Hampshire. The Panthers placed 11th out of 13 in the women's standings and 13th in the men's.
The teams will be back on the mountain next Friday and Saturday at the UNH Carnival at Cannon Mountain.
