Martin, Lemgart lead PSU Ski Teams in Slalom at UNH Carnival
Panther men place fifth; Panther women 11th
FRANCONIA, N.H. – Sophomore Max Martin (Salt Lake City, Utah) and freshman Charlotte Lemgart (Vaerloese, Denmark) paced the Plymouth State University alpine ski teams Saturday as the Panthers competed in the slalom race at the University of New Hampshire Carnival at Cannon Mountain.
Martin captured 12th place among the 89 racers in the men's slalom, while Lemgart placed 13th among 87 skiers in the women's race. Martin moved up from 15th place after the first run while Lemgart jumped up seven spots from her first run. It's the third top-12 finish in four races this season for Martin, while Lemgart posted her top finish of the season and her third top-20 finish.
Junior Andrew Beck (Lake George, N.Y.) was also a strong finisher for the Panther men, taking 26th place overall. Beck, who was 30th in the giant slalom on Friday, moved up six spots on his second slalom run.
The Panthers finished in fifth place among the 13 schools in the men's team scoring, the highest place for PSU since joining the Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association (EISA) three years ago, while the Panther women wound up 11th. The University of Vermont outraced runner-up Middlebury College for the men's title, while UVM finished ahead of runner-up Dartmouth College in the women's scoring.
The EISA teams will race again on Sunday in a make-up of the UVM slalom event. The race will take place at Burke Mountain (Vt.)
