Martin leads Panther men; Lemgart tops Panther women
EAST BURKE, Vt. – For the second straight day it was sophomore Max Martin (Salt Lake City, Utah) and freshman Charlotte Lemgart (Vaerloese, Denmark) leading the Plymouth State University alpine ski teams Sunday in a slalom make-up race at the University of Vermont Carnival at Burke Mountain Ski Area.
Martin was one of four Panther men out of the 83 racers who completed both runs, while Lemgart was the only Panther woman among the 92 female skiers to cross the finish line twice.
Martin was in ninth place after his first attempt and wound up 20th overall after two runs. Freshman Jonny Kellock (Cedar Valley, Ont.) and sophomore Takehiro Watanabe (Sapporo, Japan) finished 33rd and 37th, respectively, and freshman Brandon Sutton (Thornbury, Ont.) came across in 48th place.
Lemgart posted a strong finish for the Panther women with a 21st place, moving up two spots after her first run.
The Panther men placed ninth out of 13 schools in the team scoring, finishing ahead of Boston College, Colby-Sawyer College and Bates College. The Panther women were 11th, outscoring Bates and Colby-Sawyer. The University of Vermont outscored runner-up Middlebury College to take the men's scoring, while Dartmouth College edged UVM in the women's team standings.
The EISA circuit will be back on the slopes on Feb. 7-8 at the Dartmouth Carnival at the Dartmouth Skiway.
