PSU Alpine Ski Teams in middle of pack in slalom at Middlebury Carnival
Lemgart leads Panther women; Martin, Farrow top Panther men
MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Freshman Charlotte Lemgart (Vaerloese, Denmark) posted a 14th-place finish in the slalom race Friday to lead the Plymouth State University alpine ski teams in the slalom portion of the Middlebury College Carnival at the Middlebury Snow Bowl.
Lemgart turned in her fifth top-20 finish of the season Friday with the 14th place among 71 skiers, her third top-20 slalom finish this winter. Sophomore Max Martin (Salt Lake City, Utah) and freshman Kyle Farrow (Collingwood, Ont.) were the top finishers for the Panther men among the 74 racers, placing 30th and 32nd, respectively. The men's race included the standard two runs but the women's second run was cancelled because of deteriorating snow conditions due to rain.
Other top Panther finishers in the men's race included sophomore Takehiro Watanabe (Sapporo, Japan), who placed 38th, and junior Andrew Beck (Lake George, N.Y.), who was 51st. The next finishers for the Panther women were freshman Mariah Zanca (Camden, Maine), who finished 38th, and sophomore Caroline Lundmark (Skelleftea, Sweden), who wound up 47th.
Dartmouth College won the women's team scoring and finished runner-up in the men's, while the University of Vermont captured the men's team title and finished third in the women's. The PSU women posted their best finish of the season, tying for eighth place with Saint Lawrence University, two points back of Harvard University. The Panther men were ninth, five points behind Boston College.
The regular season concludes with Saturday's giant slalom race at Middlebury. The NCAA Championships bids will be announced at the conclusion of the GS, with Max Martin a strong candidate for PSU.
