PSU Ski Teams place finish strong in slalom at UNH Carnival at Mittersill

Kuus, Einarsdottir post top-10 finishes for Panthers

            FRANCONIA, N.H. – It was another strong day on the slopes for the Plymouth State University ski racing teams Saturday as the Panthers raced in the slalom event at the University of New Hampshire Winter Carnival at MIttersill Alpine Resort at Cannon Mountain.

            Freshman Karl Kuus (Toronto, Ont.) and sophomore Freydis Einarsdottir (Gardabaer, Iceland) led the way for the Panthers for the second day in a row. Kuus followed his ninth place in Friday's giant slalom with an eighth place in Saturday's slalom, helping the Panthers to a sixth place in the men's team standings, while Einarsdottir followed her 10th place on Saturday with a fifth place in Saturday's slalom, leading the Panthers to fifth place in the women's team standings. There were 13 teams and nearly 80 skiers in both the men's and women's races.

* Both Kuus and Einarsdottir posted top 10 finishes in the slalom for the second week in a row. Kuus was fifth and Einarsdottir was third in the slalom at last week's Saint Lawrence Carnival.

* All six PSU men posted two clean runs to finish among the top 44 racers. Junior Hunter Stuercke (Cottonwood Heights, Colo.) was 19th, senior Kyle Farrow (Collingwood, Ont.) finished 32nd, junior Bryce Eller (Mammoth Lakes, Calif.) was 41st, freshman Logan Martin (Edwards, Colo.) was 43rd, and junior Danny Blake (Orchard Park, N.Y.) was 44th.

* The Panther women had three skiers finish in the top 30. In addition to Einarsdottir, senior Charlotte Lemgart (Vaerloese, Denmark) placed 25th, and freshman Allison Price (Rutland, Vt.) took 29th.

* The University of Vermont edged Dartmouth College to capture the women's team scoring, while Dartmouth outscored runner-up Middlebury in the men's team standings.



* The Panthers will be back on the slopes next weekend at the University of Vermont Carnival at Stowe Mountain, with giant slalom on Friday and slalom on Saturday.
