Metzger, Kuus and Watson podium for Panthers
NEWRY, Maine – Plymouth State University skiers came roaring out of the gates last weekend at the first Fédération Internationale de Ski (FIS) races of the season at Sunday River Resort.
Freshman Camryn Metzger (Thornbury, Ontario) was third overall both days while competing against a full field of 140 women that included race-winner Zoe Zimmerman, a current member of the U.S. Ski Team.
Senior Karl Kuus (Toronto, Ontario) was third on Saturday and won the second run on Sunday. Sophomore Hunter Watson (Ottawa, Ontario), who was second on Saturday's first run, came back strong on Sunday to land on the podium in third overall.
With three different athletes on the podium in two days of racing, the Panthers' skiers served noticed that they will be a force to be reckoned with this season.
Up next is a four-race men's Eastern Cup series at Whiteface Mountain from Dec. 17-20, and a four-race women's Eastern Cup series back at Sunday River Dec. 16-19.
Meanwhile, as soon as he finishes his final exams, Kuus will head to Nakiska, Alberta for the second round of the NorAm series, the highest level of domestic alpine ski competition featuring many national team athletes.
PSU's Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association (EISA) carnival season gets underway Jan. 17-18 at Waterville Valley Resort for the Harvard Carnival.
