PSU Ski teams wrap up Harvard Carnival with GS

Watson, Kuus top-20 finishes for men, Metzger leads women 

            PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Sophomore Hunter Watson (Ottawa, Ontario) and senior Karl Kuus (Toronto, Ontario) posted top-20 finishes for the Plymouth State University men's alpine ski team and freshman Camryn Metzger (Thornbury, Ontario) led the women's contingent as the Panthers wrapped up the Harvard Carnival with the giant slalom races at Waterville Valley Resort on Saturday.

            Watson paced the men with his 16th place finish, with Kuus right behind in a three-way tie for 18th, while Metzger was the top female finisher in 27th place.


            The Basics:

            Harvard Carnival (Men's GS) – 6th of 13 Teams

            Harvard Carnival (Women's GS) – 10th of 13 Teams


            Team Champions (Men):

  • Dartmouth claimed the top spot after earning 119 points to hold off UNH (111) and Middlebury (109).
  • PSU tallied 64 points to finish just behind Bates.


            Team Champions (Women):

  • UVM racked up 125 points to grab the team title, ahead of Dartmouth (119) and UNH (100).
  • Plymouth State earned 38 points to trail St. Michael's by just three.


            How it Happened (Men):

  • Kuus held a slight lead of 0.02 seconds on Watson following the pairs first run, but Watson notched the 11th fastest second run to finish with a combined 2:10.06.
  • Kuus' second run was the 15th fastest as he ended up behind Watson by only 0.07 seconds.
  • Junior Ander Gonzalez (Pamplona, Spain) finished 45th in 2:13.40, while senior Logan Martin (Edwards, Colo.) ended up 49th in 2:13.79.
  • Junior Cooper Yates (Richmond, British Columbia) posted the 22nd fastest first run, but fell off the pace in his second to finish 55th in 2:17.65.


            How it Happened (Women):

  • Metzger sat in 28th following her opening run of 1:11.04 but moved up a spot with the 22nd fastest second run to finish with a combined 2:15.80.
  • Freshmen Zoe Simpson (Portland, Ore.), Carmela Olmo (Lleida, Spain) and Lili Flachbart (Hamilton, Mass.) were bunched together in 46th, 47th and 48th, respectively. Simspon finished in 2:20.49, with Olmo at 2:20.84 and Flachbart in 2:21.27.


            Up Next:

  • The Panthers head to Stowe Mountain Resort next weekend for the UVM Carnival with the GS races scheduled for Friday (Jan. 24) and the slalom on Saturday (Jan. 25).
