Junior guard Courtney Jacques (Belmont, NH) scored a team-high 15 points Sunday to lead the Plymouth State College women's basketball team to a 72-62 win over Bridgewater State College in the consolation game of the Keene State College Holiday Tournament.
Jacques added six assists, three steals and three rebounds to the Panther effort, and was selected to the All-Tournament Team. She was also PSC's leading scorer Saturday night with 17 points in an 81-67 first-round loss to Clark University.
Keene State won the tournament title with an 88-65 victory over Clark in the championship game. The Owls (4-0) are off to their best start since 1989.
Jacques got solid support from senior center Becky Morse (Sterling, MA) and sophomore forward Kate Fillion (Littleton, NH) in both games. Morse scored 16 points (on 6-of-7 shooting from the floor) and pulled down 12 rebounds Saturday against Clark, and added 12 points and nine boards Sunday against Bridgewater State. Fillion also scored in double figures in both games, counting 11 points on Saturday and 13 on Sunday. She shot 50 percent from the field (10-for-20) and 40 percent from three-point range (4-for-10).
The Panthers outrebounded their opponents in both tournament games. Sophomore Krystyna Zagorski (Matawan, NJ) led PSC to a 58-39advantage over Bridgewater State with a season-high 12 rebounds.
PSC, 3-1 overall, plays a pair of road games this week --- Thursday (Dec. 3) at Salem State (6 p.m.) and Saturday (Dec. 5) in the Little East Conference opener at Western Connecticut (1 p.m.). The home debut is Monday (Dec. 7) at Foley Gym vs. Rivier (5:30 p.m.).
