A senior captain of the Plymouth State College women's basketball team has been honored by the Little East Conference for her performance in a pair of games last week.
Senior Rebecca Morse (Sterling, MA) was selected to the first LEC honor roll for her strong play this past week. The Panthers were 0-2 last week, but lost to two of the top eight Division III teams in New England (#3 Salem State and #8 Western Connecticut).
A 5'11" center, Morse averaged 17.5 points and 9.5 boards for the week. She also added six steals and three blocks to maintain her team lead in both categories. Morse helped the Panthers with her steady shooting from the floor, going 13-for-28 (46.4%).
Morse ranks among the LEC leaders in five out of the eight individual statistical categories. She is second in the LEC in rebounding (10.3 per game) and field goal percentage (.552), sixth in points (14.3 per game), and eighth in steals (2.8 per game) and blocked shots (1.2 per game). She is also second in the team and 10th in the LEC in free throw percentage (.595).
After losing two straight, PSC dominated Rivier 116-41 in the home opener Monday night to improve to 4-3 overall under first-year coach Lauren Lavigne. The Panthers have their final game of 1998 this Saturday (Dec. 12) when they face LEC foe Rhode Island College in Providence (1:00 p.m.).
PANTHER NOTES: Junior guard Courtney Jacques (Belmont, NH) leads the Panthers and is among the LEC leaders in a pair of categories. She ranks third in assists (4.7 per game) and fourth in free throw percentage (.714), hitting 15 of 21. Jacques missed the Rivier game with the after effects of a concussion.......Sophomore forwards Krystyna Zagorkski (Matawan, NJ) and Kate Fillion (Littleton, NH) are also listed in the LEC individual rankings. Zagorski is sixth in the LEC with 8.7 rebounds per game, along with a 10.0 scoring average. Fillion is leading the team and ranks sixth in the LEC in 3-point field goal percentage (.310), connecting on 9-of-29 attempts...........After going 0-for-15 from the floor in the two games against Salem State and Western Connecticut, junior guard Lynn Hersey (Dexter, ME) hit all seven shot attempts in Monday's win over Rivier, including all three three-pointers, to finish with a season-high 18 points.
