A member of the Plymouth State College women's basketball team was honored for her outstanding play in a pair of Panther games last week.
PSC sophomore Kate Fillion (Littleton, NH) was named to the Eastern College Athletic Conference New England Weekly Honor Roll for games ending Dec. 12. She was instrumental in the Panthers finishing up the first semester at the .500 mark with a win and a loss during the week.
A 5'10" forward, Fillion averaged 14.5 points and four rebounds in a rout over Rivier College and a Little East Conference loss at Rhode Island College. She shot 61.1 percent from the floor (11-of-18) and 63.6 percent from three-point range, connecting on 7-of-11 from beyond the arc. She also added seven assists, three steals and a blocked shot to her accomplishments. Fillion scored a season-high 18 points against Rivier, hitting seven of nine shot attempts, including all four three-pointers.
One of the top rookies in the league last season, Fillion is third on the team with a 10.0 scoring average. She leads the Little East in successful three-pointers (16) and is ranked third in three-point shooting percentage (.400). Fillion also contributes 3.5 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game.
The Panthers, 4-4 overall and 0-2 in LEC games under first-year coach Lauren Lavigne, are in the middle of a four-week break for final exams and the holidays. The women return to action on Saturday, Jan. 9, hosting UMass Dartmouth at Foley Gymnasium in a Little East encounter (2:00 p.m.).
