PSC Sweeps Keene State; Still Alive For LEC
KEENE, N.H. -- Junior Courtney Jacques (Belmont, N.H.) scored 20 points and sophomore Krystyna Zagorski (Mahwah, N.J.) added 15 as the Plymouth State College women's basketball team defeated rival Keene State College, 70-61, in a Little East Conference game at Spaulding Gym.
Plymouth State, which has won seven of its last eight games, improves to 14-9 (7-9 LEC) while Keene State falls to 12-11 (5-8 LEC). The Panthers remain in a tie for fourth place with Rhode Island College, as the two schools battle for the fourth and final home-court spot in next week's LEC Tournament.
Plymouth State held a slim 30-27 lead at the break, before pulling away late in the late stages. Jaques hit a pair of free throws to put PSC up by eight (58-50) with 4:33 to play. Carrie Trudeau got the Owls' within four (61-57) with a jumper at the 1:32 mark, but Jacques buried two free throws and added a lay-up to give PSC some breathing room and a season-sweep of the two games between the two schools.
Junior Lauren Santoli (Mansfield, MA) also contributed 14 points to the Panther effort, while sophomore Kate Fillion (Littleton, NH) added 11 points. Senior Rebecca Morse (Sterling, MA) finished with six points and a team-high 13 rebounds.
The loss spoiled the final home game for KSC senior co-captains Judy Izzo (Nashua, NH) and Alice Adams (Plaistow, NH). Both players finished with 12 points with Izzo also capturing a career-high 15 rebounds in the contest.
KSC will wrap up its regular season on the road Saturday at Southern Maine, while PSC will host Eastern Connecticut. The PSC game has been moved to a 1:30 p.m. tip-off to accommodate WMUR-TV, which is televising the PSC-ECSU men's game at 4:00 p.m.
