First LEC Weekly Honor for Morin

PLYMOUTH, N.H. - A pair of Plymouth State College basketball players have been recognized by the Little East Conference in the first group of weekly honors announced by the LEC.

Senior Tony Martinez (Barnstead, N.H.) of the Panther men's team and sophomore Whitney Morin (Derby Line, Vt.) of the women's squad were both selected to the LEC Weekly Honor Roll. Both players were standouts for their respective teams during Tip-Off Tournament action the weekend before Thanksgiving.

A 6'3" power forward, Martinez was named to the All-Tournament Team at the PSC Tip-Off Classic at Foley Gymnasium. He averaged 24.5 points and 7.0 rebounds in the two games, shooting 55.6 percent from the field (20-of-36) and 60 percent from three-point range (3-of-5). Martinez scored his 1,000th career point in the opening-night loss to Lasell College (Mass.), and was the team's leading scorer against Lasell as well as in the consolation game victory over Thomas College (Maine).

A 5'8" guard, Morin was named the Most Valuable Player in the Colby Tip-Off Tournament in Waterville, Maine. She averaged 15.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists as the Panthers knocked off Husson and Colby Colleges to capture the tourney title. Morin scored a game-high 19 points in the championship game victory over the host White Mules.

The Panther men, 1-1, are idle until a non-conference encounter against perennial regional powerhouse Salem State on Thursday (Nov. 30), while the PSC women play a pair of non-conference midweek games against Gordon College on Tuesday (Nov. 28) and Salem State on Thursday (Nov. 30). Both teams return to Foley Gymnasium on Saturday (Dec. 2) for the Little East Conference opener against Eastern Connecticut (women at 1:00 p.m., men at 3:00 p.m.)
