PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Two forwards on the Plymouth State College men's and women's basketball teams have been recognized by the Little East Conference for their performances in last week's games.
Senior Tony Martinez (Barnstead, N.H.) of the Panther's men's team and classmate Krystyna Zagorski (Matawan, N.J.) of the women's squad were both named to this week's LEC Weekly Honor Roll. It is the second time this season for Martinez and the first time for Zagorski to be recognized by the conference.
A 6'3'' power forward, Martinez averaged 20.5 points and 9.0 rebounds while hitting 53% from the floor in PSC's 1-1 week. He had 36 points and 15 rebounds in the overtime win Tuesday against Colby Sawyer. However, Martinez went down with an injury during the LEC conference loss Saturday at Western Connecticut. He played only 18 minutes before sitting out the second half with an injury, finishing the game with five points. This injury ended his streak of consecutive games with at least 10 points at 33 games, dating back to the 1998-99 season. Martinez ranks third in the LEC in scoring (21.3 ppg), seventh in rebounds (7.7), seventh in field goal percentage (.490),and 11th in free throw percentage (.704).
A 5'11'' forward, Zagorski led PSC in a 1-2 week, averaging 15.7 points and 8.7 rebounds. She registered double-doubles in games against Coast Guard (17 pts., 11 rebs.) and Colby Sawyer (19 pts., 11 rebs.). Zagorski is ranked fifth in the LEC in scoring (13.2 ppg), seventh in rebounding (7.3 rpg), and sixth in field goal percentage (.432).
The PSC men are currently 1-1 in the LEC and 3-3 overall, and will be at Bridgewater State on Tuesday (Dec. 12) at 7:00 p.m., while the women currently are 1-1 in the LEC and 5-3 overall and play Johnson and Wales at Foley Gymnasium on Saturday (Dec. 16th) at 2:00 p.m.
