Panthers double up RIC
PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Sophomore Courtney Albert (Hudson, N.H.) hit 8-of-9 field goal attempts to finish with a game-high 17 points Thursday night to lead Plymouth State College's women's basketball team to an 80-40 Little East Conference victory over Rhode Island College.
The Panthers never trailed in the contest, leading by 11 points midway through the first half and holding a 29-point advantage at the half. PSC led by more than 30 most of the second half, giving the team a chance to empty the bench. The victory was PSC's fifth in the last six outings, improving the Panthers to 10-4 overall and 4-2 in the LEC. RIC drops to 5-9 and 2-4. Sophomore Heather Adey (Nashua, N.H.) was the only other Panther to score in double figures, finishing with 10 points. The Panthers also turned in another strong defensive effort, making 19 steals and causing 29 Anchorwomen turnovers. Junior Brenda Rattray (Johnston, R.I.) and senior Beth Iacoi (Westerly, R.I.) led the Anchorwomen with 13 points apiece.
The Panthers return to action Saturday (Jan. 20) with a key conference affair at Eastern Connecticut (1:00 p.m.). ECSU is 12-1 and ranked second in the region, with its only loss a 96-85 decision at Plymouth State on Dec. 2nd. RIC plays again Saturday at UMass Boston (1 p.m.)
