Panthers need OT to defeat Trinity in opener

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Junior Courtney Albert (Hudson, N.H.) scored 26 points and grabbed 15 rebounds Saturday to lead the Plymouth State College women's basketball team to a dramatic 86-77 overtime victory over Trinity College (Conn.) in the opening round of the Swarthmore College (Pa.) Tip-Off Tournament.

The Panthers advance to Sunday's championship match at 4:00 p.m., facing host Swarthmore, which came from behind to defeat Juniata College in the second game Saturday, 71-58

Sophomore guard Erica Perry (Center Conway, N.H.) hit three out of four pressure free throws in the final 19 seconds of regulation to force the extra frame. The Panthers then outscored the Bantams 13-4 in overtime, getting six points from junior guard Jenn Pelletier (Derry, N.H.) and four from the line by Albert.

Albert led a group of four Panthers who scored in double figures -Pelletier with 11 points and six assists, junior forward Heather Adey (Nashua, N.H.) with 10 points and 11 boards, and senior guard Tammi Waters (Wilmington, Vt.) with 10 points.

Trinity had four players score in double figures. McKenzie Corby finished with 19 points, Kate McCloskey contributed 18 points and 14 rebounds, Michelle McCaffrey had 14 points and 14 boards, and Shannon Herold scored 13 points.

PSC led much of a roller-coaster first half, and maintained a 46-39 advantage at the break behind 12 points from Albert. Trinity went on a 18-8 run in the first 10 minutes of the second half to take the lead, and held the advantage the rest of regulation until Perry's free throws forced overtime.
