PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Plymouth State College swept the top women's basketball honors handed out this week by the Little East Conference.
Junior guard Jenn Pelletier (Derry, N.H.) was selected LEC Women's Basketball Player of the Week, and freshman center Heidi McAllister (Newport, N.H.) was named LEC Rookie of the Week. The two helped PSC post a 2-1 record in three road games last week. Pelletier is the third PSC player to earn the top LEC weekly honor this season, joining classmates Heather Adey (Nashua, N.H.) and Courtney Albert (Hudson, N.H.).
A 5'5" point guard, Pelletier averaged 16.0 point, 5.7 assists, and 5.3 rebounds in the three games last week. She connected on 12-of-23 (.522) field goal attempts, including 7-of-11 (.636) three pointers and 17-of-19 (.895) from the free throw line. She registered a season-high 21-point, 9-assist effort last Saturday at Rhode Island College, and on Tuesday moved into first place on the school's all-time assist list (271).
A First Team All-LEC pick last season, Pelletier leads the conference in free throw percentage (.823) and three-point field goal percentage (.469), and ranks third in assists (4.5 apg) and 10th in scoring (12.3 ppg).
A 6'0" freshman center, McAllister came off the bench to connect on 13-of-19 (.684) field goal attempts, and average 10.7 points and 4.0 rebounds. She scored 11 points, on 4-of-5 (.800) shooting against UMass Boston and added 13 points (5-of-7, .714, from the floor) against Rhode Island College. She has improved her season averages to 4.4 points and 3.0 rebounds.
The Panthers, 11-3 overall and 4-1 in conference play, are locked in a three-way tie for second place in the LEC with Eastern Connecticut and Keene State. PSC plays its fourth consecutive road game Tuesday (Jan. 15) at 5:30 p.m. at LEC-leading Southern Maine (14-1, 5-0). The Huskies are coming off a 61-59 victory over previously unbeaten Eastern Connecticut.
