P.S.C. Basketball standouts named Little East Players of the Week
PLYMOUTH, N.H. - The Little East Conference announced its first round of weekly basketball honors for the 2002-03 season Monday, and two Plymouth State College students were selected LEC Players of the Week.
Sophomore guard Nick Pelotte (Bingham, Maine) was named LEC Men's Basketball Player of the Week, and senior guard Whitney Morin (Derby Line, Vt.) was chosen LEC Women's Basketball Co-Player of the Week. The two Panthers both earned All-Tournament Team honors in PSC's season-opening tournaments last weekend.
A 5'11" guard, Pelotte was named Most Valuable Player of the annual Hight Tournament, hosted by UMaine Farmington. He averaged 22,0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists in the tourney, helping PSC capture the title with wins over Fisher College and UMF. Pelotte connected on 10-of-19 field goal attempts (.526), including 5-of-10 from beyond the three-point arc, en route to a career-high 30 points in the opening round win over Fisher.
A 5'8" guard, Morin was an All-Tournament Team selection at the Colby Tip-Off Tournament after averaging 26.0 points, 7.5 assists and 4.5 steals in the two games. She led PSC with 22 points and six assists in an opening round win over St. Joseph's, and reached her career highs with 30 points, nine assists and six steals in the overtime loss to Colby in the title game. Morin shared this week's honor with UMass Boston's Andreen Gilpin.
The PSC men's team, 2-0, plays its home opener Tuesday (Nov. 26) at Foley Gymnasium against Johnson State (7:00 p.m.). The Panther women will be in action Tuesday with a non-conference game at Castleton State (6:00 p.m.).
