PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Two members of the highly successful Plymouth State College women's basketball team were honored Thursday with another round of post-season honors.
The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) named senior forward Courtney Albert (Hudson, N.H.) an NCAA Division III Kodak All-America Honorable Mention. Albert is one of five players to be recognized from Region 1, and it is the second straight year she has received the honor. Albert was also named a First Team New England All-Star by the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA), and Panther senior guard Whitney Morin (Derby Line, Vt.) was selected a Third Team New England All-Star by NEWBA.
Albert and Morin were named Little East Conference First Team All-Stars last week. They, along with fellow seniors Jenn Pelletier (Derry, N.H.) and Heather Adey (Nashua, N.H.), helped PSC to a 23-8 overall mark, a school-record 23 victories, and its second consecutive ECAC New England Championship.
A 5'9" forward, Albert had another terrific year for the Panthers, averaging 16.6 points and 8.3 rebounds. Usually playing against bigger opponents, she shot 49 percent from the field, 76 percent from the free throw line, and 44 percent from three-point range, converting 28 baskets from beyond the arc. Albert owns the PSC career scoring mark with 1,711 points.
A 5'8" guard, Morin enjoyed her best season in a Panther uniform, averaging a team-high 17.0 points per game, third-highest in the LEC. She also ranked third in the league in steals (3.0 spg) and sixth in assists (3.8 apg). Morin, who was named Most Outstanding Player in the ECAC Tournament in both 2002 and 2003, finishes fifth on PSC's career scoring list with 1,180 points
