PSU Women fall short at Western Conn.
DANBURY, Conn. - Senior Christin Morgatto registered a triple-double and Western Connecticut State University defeated Plymouth State University, 65-46, Saturday afternoon in a Little East Conference women's basketball game at Feldman Arena.
Morgatto scored a team-high 15 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and made 10 steals to lead the Colonials, who improved to 6-8 overall and 2-3 in the LEC. Plymouth State had a modest two-game winning streak stopped and dipped to 7-7 overall and 2-3 in conference play.
Plymouth State stayed in the game the first 20 minutes, trailing by only five at halftime, 27-22. But Western slowly pulled away in the second half, taking an 11-point lead (38-27) with 14 minutes to play and maintaining a double-digit advantage the rest of the way.
In addition to Morgatto, Western got 14 points from Erica Murphy and 13 from Allyson Padden. Mallory Stevens added eight points and a game-high 19 rebounds, leading WCSU to a 47-35 advantage on the boards.
Junior Lauren Devereaux (Hope Valley, R.I.) led the Panthers with 11 points and six rebounds, the only player to score in double figures. Junior Betsy Oswalt (Jaffrey, N.H.) and freshman Ashley White (Merrimack, N.H.) contributed eight points apiece.
PSU returns home for another key LEC match-up Tuesday against arch-rival Keene State (5:30 p.m.).
