- Sophomore Debbie Bruen dropped in 16 points, while junior Jenn Olinger and freshman Jessica Shifflett contributed 12 points apiece Friday night to lead the University of Mary Washington (Va.) to an 88-64 win over Plymouth State University in the second game in the annual Swat Tip-Off Women's Basketball Tournament at Tarble Pavilion.
After leadin by eight at the break, the Eagles outscored the Panthers 53-37 in the second half to earn a date with defending champion and host Swarthmore College on Saturday night at 8:00 p.m. PSU will face Immaculata (Pa.) in the consolation game of the Swat Tip Off at 6:00 p.m., as Swarthmore took care of the Mighty Macs in the tournament opener, 76-39.
Freshman guard Joy DePalo (Enfield, N.H./Mascoma) led the Plymouth State offense, coming off the bench to score 13 points, connecting on 6-of-12 from the field. Senior Lauren Devereaux (Hope Valley, R.I.) added 12 points and a team-high seven rebounds, and sophomore Ashley White (Merrimack, N.H.) contributed 11 points, hitting 3-of-6 from three-point range.
