PSU wins consolation game at Swarthmore Women’s Hoop Tournament

- Senior Lauren Devereaux (Hope Valley, R.I.) matched her career high with 18 points Saturday evening to lead the Plymouth State University women's basketball team to an 86-52 victory over Immaculata University (Pa.) in the consolation game of the Swat Tip-Off Tournament at Tarble Pavilion.

Devereaux connected on 8-of-13 field goal attempts while also recording five rebounds and four steals, and represented Plymouth State on the All-Tournament Team.  The senior forward also scored 12 points in Friday night's opening-round loss to Mary Washington.

The Panthers also got 10 points apiece from sophomore Heather Thomas (Merrimack, N.H.) and freshman Joy DePalo (Enfield, N.H./ Mascoma) against Immaculata, with Thomas collecting a team-high eight rebounds and DePalo recording seven assists and no turnovers.  DePalo also led the team in the opener with 13 points.

Saturday's outcome offset a strong performance by Immaculata sophomore Meg Legere, who scored a game-high 30 points and grabbed eight rebounds.  Senior Jamie Williams added seven points and 12 boards for the Mighty Macs.

PSU built up a 10-point advantage midway through the first half, taking a 24-14 lead.  The Panthers led by as much as 21 points (36-15) before settling for a 40-24 halftime margin, and maintained the sizeable margin throughout the second half.  All 15 Panther players in uniform got into the game, with all but two getting into the scoring department.

The Panthers, 1-1, return to New England for a Tuesday night road game at Castleton State (5:30 p.m.).
