Castleton State edges PSU Womens BasketballCASTLETON, Vt.
- Senior Casey Wedge (Bristol, Vt.) scored 24 points Tuesday evening to lead Castleton State College to a 72-67 victory over Plymouth State University in a non-conference women's basketball game.
Wedge drained 6-of-10 from three-point range to lead the Spartans offense. Sophomore Jenn Whiting (Granville, N.Y.) added 16 points and 10 rebounds, and senior Beth Ratner (South Easton, Mass.) contributed 10 points.
Plymouth State used a balanced scoring attack, with only one player - senior Lauren Devereaux (Hope Valley, R.I.) - reaching double figures in scoring with 17 points. Junior Katie Susat (Glastonbury, Conn.) was the next high scorer with nine points.
The game was close most of the way, with the hosts maintaining a two-point halftime lead (37-35) before finishing off the five-point win. PSU was hurt by making only 5-of-15 from the free throw line and being out-rebounded 56-34.
The Panthers, 1-2, are idle until Thursday, Dec. 2, when they visit Salem State College for a non-conference match-up (6:00 p.m.). The home opener and Little East Conference debut is set for Saturday, Dec. 4, against Rhode Island College (1:00 p.m.).
