Little East Conference Weekly Honors for PSU Basketball sophomores

PLYMOUTH, N.H. - A pair of sophomores on the Plymouth State University basketball teams were honored by the Little East Conference Monday for their performances in PSU's contests last week.

Sophomore guard Ashley White (Merrimack, N.H.) was selected LEC Women's Basketball Player of the Week, and sophomore forward Andreas Pope (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was named to the Men's Weekly Honor Roll.  White is the first Panther woman to earn LEC Player of the Week honor since February of 2003, while Pope is on the Honor Roll after earning the top weekly honor seven days ago.

A 5'8" guard, White averaged 14.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists in two games for PSU, shooting 52.2 percent from the field (12-of-23). She tossed in a career-high 17 points in Thursday's eight-point loss at Salem State, and added 11 points and seven rebounds as PSU defeated Rhode Island College Saturday in the LEC opener. White, who missed 12 games last season with a knee injury, is second on the team in scoring this year, averaging 9.8 points per game.

A 6'1" forward, Pope enjoyed another outstanding week for the Panthers. He averaged 20.3 points and 10.3 rebounds in three PSU games, shooting 54.1 percent from the field (20-of-37) and 77.8 percent from the free throw line (21-of-27). Pope finished with 21 points, eight rebounds, five assists and six steals in Tuesday's loss to Colby-Sawyer, added 14 points and nine boards in a road loss to Salem State on Thursday, and finished the week with 26 points and a career-high 14 rebounds in a key LEC victory over Rhode Island College.

Both PSU teams wrap up the semester with a pair of road games this week.  The Panther women, 2-3 overall and 1-0 in conference play, visit Middlebury on Tuesday (7:00 p.m.) and travel to UMass Dartmouth for an LEC affair on Saturday (1:00 p.m.).  The Panther men, 3-3 overall and 1-0 in the LEC, travel to Tufts on Tuesday (7:00 p.m.) and pay a visit to UMass Dartmouth on Saturday for a conference match-up (3:00 p.m.).
