NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. - Six players scored in double figures Saturday afternoon as the Plymouth State University women's basketball team ran past the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, 85-80, in a Little East Conference game at the Tripp Athletic Center.
The Panthers improve to 2-0 in conference play, 3-4 overall, while UMD drops to 0-2 in the LEC, 4-4 overall. Both teams scored 47 points in the second half on 50 percent shooting, but PSU held on for the victory. Plymouth State extended its winning streak over UMD to 16 straight.
Freshman Meghan MacDonald (Salem, N.H.) led the balanced Panther scoring attack with 15 points, while sophomore Colleen Mahoney (North Attleboro, Mass.) finished with 14 points. Junior Katie Susat (Glastonbury, Conn.) contributed 12 points and a team-high six rebounds, sophomores Ashley White (Merrimack, N.H.) and Kaitlin Linehan (South Boston, Mass.) added 11 points apiece, and senior Lauren Devereaux (Hope Valley, R.I.) chipped in with 10 points.
Sophomore Katie Lunnin (South Boston, Mass.) led the Corsairs with 25 points, thanks in part to hitting 5-of-9 from three-point range. Junior Kerri Augenstein (East Greenwich, R.I.) added 18 points, freshman Ashley Chard (Burlington, Conn.) finished with 11, and freshman Lisa Satkevich (Quincy, Mass.) tossed in 10 points.
The Panthers now take a break for final exams and the holidays. PSU returns to action on Monday-Tuesday, Jan. 3-4, at the Williams Tournament in Williamstown, Mass. UMD has one more non-conference game before the break, Wednesday at Johnson & Wales (5:30 p.m.).
