PSU Women’s Basketball flies past Newbury

     PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Seniors Betsy Oswalt (Jaffrey, N.H.) and Lauren Devereaux (Hope Valley, R.I.) combined for 24 points and 17 rebounds Tuesday evening to lead the Plymouth State University women's basketball team to a 73-47 non-conference victory over Newbury College at Foley Gymnasium.

              Oswalt scored a team-high 14 points, hitting 6-of-12 from the floor, while Devereaux posted her third double-double of the season with 10 points and a season-best 14 boards.  The two senior co-captains helped PSU improve to 8-11 overall, while Newbury fell to 6-11.

              Plymouth State had to overcome a slow start.  The hosts fell behind 9-2 to start the game as Newbury hit its first three shots from three-point range.  The Panthers got on track with a 17-2 run over the next five minutes to open up an eight-point lead.  PSU's lead reached double figures (29-18) with six minutes to play in the half, and was at 20 at the break (46-26).

              The Panthers maintained their large advantage throughout the second half, as Newbury got no closer than 15 points.

              PSU also got offensive help from freshman Joy DePalo (Enfield, N.H.) and sophomore Colleen Mahoney (North Attleboro, Mass.).  DePalo finished with 11 points and Mahoney with nine as each connected on three three-point baskets.

              Newbury, which used only six players, got a game-high 15 points and nine rebounds from junior Randi Hardiman (Loudon, N.H.) and 14 points and nine boards from senior Ebony White (Lynn, Mass.).  Sophomore Jessie Laliberty (Haverhill, Mass.) and senior Shanisha Mitchell (Brockton, Mass.) each contributed eight points.

              PSU, which has played its last four games at home, returns to Little East Conference action Saturday with a visit to Eastern Connecticut (1:00 p.m.) Newbury returns home to host Wheaton College on Thursday (7:00 p.m.)
