Colby-Sawyer hands PSU Womens Basketball first loss of season
NEW LONDON, N.H. - Junior Stacey Hildreth (Winchester, N.H.) recorded career highs in points, rebounds and blocked shots Tuesday night as the Colby-Sawyer College women's basketball team defeated Plymouth State University, 82-64, in a non-conference game at Coffin Field House.
Hildreth led all scorers with 20 points to go along with 15 rebounds and eight blocked shots. Hildreth led four Charger players in double-figures in scoring, as Kristen Sorensen (Coventry, Conn.) dropped in 15 and Lisa Cole (Athol, Mass.) and Amy Beaton (Haverhill, Mass.) added 10 points each.
Sophomore Meghan MacDonald (Salem, N.H.) led the Panthers with 15 points, while junior Ashley White (Merrimack, N.H.) added 14 points. Junior McKenzie Ferguson (Conway, N.H.) collected a team-high 11 rebounds for the Panthers.
The Chargers raced to a 16-3 lead in the first five minutes of the game. PSU battled back and pulled to within five points (29-24) with three minutes left in the half before the teams went to the locker room with the hosts enjoying a nine-point advantage (38-29).
Colby-Sawyer maintained the lead throughout the second half. The Panthers were within 10 points (48-38) with 10 minutes to play, but the Chargers went on a 12-2 run to go up by 20 with six minutes to play, and then coasted home with the win.
PSU, which suffered its first loss of the season (3-1), returns home to host Salem State in a non-conference game Thursday at Foley Gymnasium (5:30 p.m.) The Panthers will travel to Western Connecticut Saturday for the Little East Conference opener (1:00 p.m.) Colby-Sawyer returns to action on Saturday, hosting Nichols in the Commonwealth Coast Conference opener for both schools (3:00 p.m.)
