SALEM, Mass. - Salem State College remained undefeated on the season Thursday night with an 88-64 victory over Plymouth State University in non-conference women's basketball action at James Twohig Gymnasium. The Vikings improve to 4-0 while the Panthers fall to 1-4.
SSC, which is tied at No. 23 in this week's ESPN/USA Today Division 3 national poll, was led by freshman center Danielle Jenkins (Marlborough, Mass.), who recorded 25 points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots.
Jenkins was one of four Vikings to score in double figures against the Panthers. Junior Lindsey Watkins (Wareham, Mass.) added 11 points and a game-high nine rebounds, junior Melissa Macchi (Peabody, Mass.) registered 11 points and a game-high nine steals, and senior Katelyn Lunnin (South Boston, Mass.) contributed 14. All 12 players who played for the home team scored.
The Panthers were led by freshman Gretchen Fritch (South Boston, Mass.), who came off the bench to score a season-high 14 points, and classmate Karly Gray (Southampton, Mass.), who finished with 10 points. Junior Lauren Daniels (Concord, N.H.) chipped in with nine points and team-high five rebounds.
Salem State hit 51 percent of its shots while holding PSU to a 39 percent clip, and the Vikings dominated the boards with a 43-26 advantage. The home team led 44-30 at halftime and extended the lead to 25 points (65-40) midway through the second half.
PSU returns to Little East Conference action Saturday at Foley Gymnasium against Western Connecticut (1:00 p.m.), while the Vikings' next game is Saturday at Clark University (1:00 p.m.)
