PSU Women’s Basketball dumped by Middlebury

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - Middlebury College placed four players in double figures Tuesday evening on its way to a 73-53 win over Plymouth State University in non-conference women's basketball action in Pepin Gym.

Middlebury slowly increased its lead early, holding a 21-11 advantage with 6:45 left in the first half. The host Panthers made 12 of 15 first-half free throws to take a 32-17 lead into the break.

Plymouth State cut into the lead early in the second half behind five points from junior Lauren Daniels (Concord, N.H.) to make it a 37-26 game with 16:20 remaining. Middlebury answered with 10 straight points over the next six minutes to take a 53-32 lead midway through second half. The advantage remained at 20 or more for the remainder of the contest.

Junior Jennifer Kelleher (Belle Harbor, N.Y.) led the home team with 16 points, while sophomore Ashley Barron (Brockton, Mass.) scored 15. Sophomore Emily Johnson (Lower Gwynedd, Pa.) added a dozen points with three three-pointers, while junior Lani Young (Concord, N.H.) scored 10 and grabbed 13 boards.

Freshman Laura Kent (Bellingham, Mass.) led Plymouth State with 11 points off the bench, while Daniels netted eight. Kent is the sixth different player in PSU's seven games to lead the team in scoring.

Middlebury, 5-2, returns to action Thursday when it hosts Green Mountain College, while the PSU Panthers, 1-6, host Little East Conference foe Rhode Island College on Saturday (1:00 p.m.)
