Gray and Morin lead PSU Womens Basketball past UMass Dartmouth
NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. - Freshman Karly Gray (Southampton, Mass.) and sophomore Kayla Morin (Pascoag, R.I.) combined for 35 points Saturday afternoon to lead Plymouth State University to an 84-63 victory over the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in a Little East Conference women's basketball game at the Tripp Athletic Center.
The Panthers (4-7 overall, 1-2 LEC) opened 2007 with the conference road win, extending their winning streak to three games. The Corsairs (3-8, 0-3) suffered their third straight loss to start play in the New Year.
Gray scored 14 of her game-high 19 points from the free throw line, converting 14 of 18 attempts, while Morin made 6-of-9 from the floor, including both shots from three-point range, to finish with 16 points in just 13 minutes off the bench.
Plymouth State shot just 37.5 percent for the game, but had a decisive 47-30 advantage on the boards. It was a team effort, with junior Lauren Daniels (Concord, N.H.) and senior Colleen Mahoney (North Attleboro, Mass.) grabbing six each, and Gray and senior Kaitlin Linehan (South Boston, Mass.) collecting five apiece.
The Corsairs had a balanced scoring effort, with freshman Amanda Poniatowski (Shelton, Conn.) finishing with 12 points and junior Lisa Satkevich (Quincy, Mass.) and sophomore Ashley Chard (Burlington, Conn.) contributing 11 points apiece.
Plymouth State returns home to host UMaine Farmington on Sunday in a non-conference affair at Foley Gymnasium (1:00 p.m.) UMD visits Eastern Connecticut for an LEC contest on Tuesday (5:30 p.m.)
