Eastern Conn. dumps PSU Women’s Hoop in regular season finale

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. - Senior Sandy Mosley (Goshen, Conn.) scored a career-high 30 points in the final regular-season home game of her career Saturday afternoon to power the Eastern Connecticut State University women's basketball team to a 79-64 Little East Conference victory over Plymouth State University in the regular season finale for both schools at Francis E. Geissler Gymnasium.

Despite winning its third straight conference game to finish at .500 in LEC play, Eastern (15-10, 7-7) will open the conference tournament on the road Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Rhode Island College. The Warriors are seeded fifth, Rhode Island College fourth. The Anchorwomen assured themselves of hosting rather than visiting Eastern with a 69-68 road win at UMass Boston Saturday afternoon.

Plymouth State, 6-18 overall and 2-12 in LEC play, will be the No. 7 seed and will visit No. 2 seeded Keene State in Tuesday's first-round tournament opener (5:30 p.m.)

Freshman forward Karly Gray (Southampton, Mass) was PSU's lone double-figure scorer against Eastern, canning six of nine field goals on the way to a team-high 14 points.

ECSU's only senior, Mosley scored over half of her team's points in the first half, netting 17 as Eastern overcame a nine-point deficit to pull ahead, 33-30, at the break. The Warriors scored the first 10 points of the second half and never trailed the rest of the way. Eastern shot 64.3 percent from the floor in the second half in scoring 46 points.

With a game-high 12 rebounds, Mosley posted her third double-double in the last five games and finished as the team leader in both scoring and rebounding for the eighth time this year. Sophomore Nicky Morey (Columbia, Conn.) finished in double figures for the third straight game, scoring 16 points with seven assists, five rebounds, and four steals. Sophomore center Ashley McFetridge (Canton, Conn.) contributed 12 points and six rebounds in 20 minutes for Eastern, which won for the ninth straight time over Plymouth and for the 22nd time in the last 24 meetings.

PSU dropped both games to Keene State this season, 80-59 in Plymouth on Jan. 23, and 81-51 last Tuesday in Keene, N.H.
