Gray leads PSU Womens Basketball past Lasell
PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Sophomore Karly Gray (Southampton, Mass.) scored a career-high 24 points Tuesday evening to lead Plymouth State University to a 91-43 victory over Lasell College in a non-conference women's basketball game at Foley Gymnasium.
Gray, who made 10-of-14 field goal attempts in the game, matched her previous career best of 19 points in the first half alone, when she converted 8-of-9 from the floor. Gray also collected seven rebounds, helping the Panthers stop a five-game losing streak. PSU is now 4-5 overall, while Lasell drops to 2-6.
Senior Lauren Daniels (Concord, N.H.) also had a strong night for the home team, picking up her first double-double of the season with 13 points and a career-high 15 rebounds. She helped PSU to a whopping 61-26 advantage on the boards. Junior Kayla Morin (Pascoag, R.I.) came off the Panther bench to contribute 17 points, making 3-of-4 from three-point range.
Lasell got a solid performance from sophomore Tricia Culver (Northampton, Mass.), who scored a team-high 14 points, while freshman Carla Zinno (Middlebury, Conn.) chipped in with nine points.
Plymouth State led wire to wire, taking an eight-point lead just three minutes into the contest and never looking back. The Panthers took their first double-digit advantage when the game was less than eight minutes old, and extended the margin to 21 points (44-23) by halftime. Lasell was unable to mount a challenge in the second half.
The Panthers shot 50 percent from the field for the game (35-of-70) while holding Lasell to a 22.8 percent shooting clip.
PSU wraps up the first semester of action this Saturday with a non-conference affair at Johnson & Wales University (1:00 p.m.). Lasell concludes its semester on Thursday with a visit to Western Connecticut (7:00 p.m.)
