Little East Conference weekly honors for PSU Basketball players
PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Three members of the Plymouth State University basketball teams were recognized by the Little East Conference on Monday for their performances in Panther games last week.
Freshman Amanda Kania (Manchester, N.H./West) was selected LEC Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week, and junior Kayla Morin (Pascoag, Mass./Burrillville) and sophomore Jason O'Keefe (Everett, Mass./Everett) were named to the LEC Weekly Honor Rolls. It is the third time this season that Kania has been selected LEC Rookie of the Week, while the other two are honored by the LEC for the first time in their careers.
A 5'11" forward, Kania (right) averaged 16.0 points and 6.5 rebounds in PSU's 1-1 week, including a double-double (20 points and 10 rebounds) in Saturday's 85-82 double-overtime LEC win over Rhode Island College. She shot 40 percent from the floor for the week, while also recording three blocked shots. Kania is second on the team in both scoring and rebounding for the season (9.8 points and 5.8 boards per game), and is ranked 18th in the LEC in scoring and 11th in rebounding.
A 5'7" forward, Morin (far right) averaged 16.5 points in the 1-1 week, including a team-high 23 points in the double-overtime LEC win over RIC. Her biggest points in the game came on a game-winning three-pointer with 10 seconds left in the second overtime. She also collected six assists, three blocked shots and two steals in the week. Morin is third on the team and 19th in the conference in scoring (9.6 points per game).
A 6'3" guard, O'Keefe (left) averaged 24.5 points in a pair of Panther losses to UMaine Farmington and RIC, scoring over 20 points in both outings and connecting on nine three-pointers. He tossed in 26 points in a three-point loss at UMF and added 23 in an 11-point setback to RIC. O'Keefe is second on the team and fourth in the LEC in scoring with an average of 15.8 points per game.
Both Panthers teams play a pair on conference games this week, Tuesday at UMass Boston (women at 5:30 p.m., men at 7:30 p.m.) and Saturday at home against UMass Dartmouth (women at 1:00 p.m., men at 3:00 p.m.)
