PSU Womens Hoop player shares top LEC Weekly honor
PLYMOUTH, N.H. - The leading scorer on the Plymouth State University women's basketball team was honored by the Little East Conference Monday with selection as Co-Player of the Week for her outstanding start to the regular season.
Senior forward Kayla Morin (Pascoag, R.I./Burrillville) shared the LEC Player of the Week honor after posting a double-double in the season opener and breaking the school record for three-pointers in a game last Friday against Babson. She has helped the Panthers get off to a 3-0 start to the season, including the championship of the Babson Invitational Tournament. Morin shared the LEC honor with UMass Dartmouth junior forward Kaylin Nelson.
A 5'7" forward, Morin (right) averaged 17.3 points and 5.7 rebounds last week and was named Most Valuable Player at the Babson Tournament. She set a PSU record with eight three-pointers and a career-high 33 points in Friday's victory over Babson, making 8-of-10 from three-point land and 10-of-17 overall. Morin also posted a double-double in the Panthers' season-opening upset victory over Salem State last Tuesday, recording 13 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and four steals.
Morin is a returning Second Team All-New Hampshire selection. She led the Panthers in scoring last season with 9.6 points per game, and made a team-high 30 three-point baskets. Her career high before last Friday was a 17-point effort against Lasell College last December.
PSU is back in action with a non-conference road game on Tuesday (Nov. 25) at Castleton at 5:30 p.m.
