PLYMOUTH, N.H. - One of the top players on the Plymouth State University women's basketball team was recognized Monday with weekly honors from the Little East Conference (LEC) and the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA).
Sophomore Alicia Doucet (Manchester, N.H./Central) was selected to both the LEC and NEWBA Weekly Honor Rolls after leading the Panthers to a 3-0 week. She has helped PSU match the best start in school history with seven straight wins to open the season.
A 5'11" forward, Doucet (right) averaged 19.0 points, 10.7 rebounds and 3.0 assists for PSU last week. She posted a pair of double-doubles, recording 25 points and 15 rebounds in Tuesday's 77-60 victory at Colby-Sawyer College and adding 10 points and 10 rebounds in a 67-66 LEC win Saturday over UMass Dartmouth. Sandwiched in between was a 22-point, seven-rebound performance in an 80-64 win over Salem State. Doucet also contributed four steals and four blocked shots, helping PSU remain undefeated on the season.
Doucet, who was named to the LEC All-Rookie Team last season, begins this week ranked third in the Little East in scoring with 15.6 points per game, fourth in rebounding with 9.4 boards per contest, and second in blocked shots (2.0 per outing). She is also one of the top three-point shooters in the conference, making 10-of-28 from long range (35.7 percent).
The Panthers, 7-0, wrap up the semester this week with a pair of home games, a non-conference affair Thursday against Lyndon State College (5:30 p.m.) and a key LEC match-up Saturday against Eastern Connecticut State University (1:00 p.m.)
