PSU Women’s Basketball players receive top LEC honors
Doucet, Walker named Player, Rookie of the Week
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Two of the top players on
the Plymouth State University women’s basketball team were
recognized Monday with Little East Conference (LEC) Player of the
Week honors after their performances in the first week of the
2010-11 basketball season.
Junior forward Alicia Doucet (Manchester, N.H./Central) was named LEC Player of the Week, and freshman guard Sammie Walker (Manchester, N.H./Central) was selected LEC Rookie of the Week. The twosome led PSU to the championship of the Wheaton College Tip-Off Tournament last weekend in Norton, Mass., defeating Fitchburg State University in the first round and knocking off Wheaton in double overtime in the championship game.
A 5’11” forward, Doucet (right) was named
to the All-Tournament team after averaging 22 points and seven
rebounds for the weekend. She tossed in a career-high 32
points while collecting seven boards and four steals in the
championship game victory over Wheaton, and she scored 12 points
and grabbed seven rebounds in PSU’s opening-round win over
Fitchburg State. Doucet also had 15 points and eight rebounds
in PSU’s opening game of the season, a loss to Emerson; for
the week, she averaged 19.7 points, 7.3 rebounds and 2.3
steals.
A 5’3” guard, Walker (left) was named Most
Valuable Player of the Wheaton Tournament after averaging 17.0
points, 9.0 rebounds and 4.5 steals. She tossed in a
team-high 20 points (on 6-of-10 shooting) with eight rebounds and
five steals in PSU’s opening-round win over Fitchburg State,
and she recorded a double-double with 14 points, 10 rebounds and
four steals in the championship game. For the week, she
averaged 13.7 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.0 steals.
The Panthers, 2-1, will play one more game before a short Thanksgiving break, traveling to Castleton on Tuesday, Nov. 23, for a 5:30 p.m. match-up.
