PSU Women’s Basketball falls to Emerson in debut
Monohon and Walsh lead Panthers in scoring
BOSTON, Mass. – Olivia DiNucci scored 22 points while teammate Olivia Connors posted a double-double Tuesday evening as Emerson College defeated Plymouth State University, 62-51, in the women's basketball season opener for both schools at Emerson's Brown & Plofker Gym.
Juniors Sam Monohon and Kellie Walsh led the Panthers with 13 points apiece. Monohon also collected a team-high seven rebounds and Walsh grabbed six.
PSU held a 12-11 lead midway through the first half when Emerson rattled off 12 unanswered points to open up an 11-point margin, 23-12. The Lions went on to take a 14-point bulge into the locker room, 33-19.
Emerson built its lead up to 19 points early in the second half. PSU got the deficit down to nine points but struggled from beyond the three-point line (2-for-22) and was unable to get any closer.
The Panthers travel to Bowdoin College this weekend for the Bowdoin Tip-Off Tournament, while the Lions will travel to Wentworth Thursday night for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
