PSU Women’s Basketball drops LEC game at UMD

O'Hara posts double-double for Panthers

              NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's women's basketball team defeated Plymouth State University Saturday afternoon, 73-56, in a Little East Conference game at the Tripp Athletic Center.

              The Corsairs, who never trailed in the contest, used a 18-4 run to open the second half to turn a five-point halftime lead into a 55-36 advantage with 12:17 to play.  It was a total team effort as five players contributed baskets during the decisive run. The Corsairs improved to 6-3 and 1-1 in the Little East while the Panthers dropped to 2-7 and 0-2 in the LEC.

              Plymouth State was led by a game-high 24 points and 10 rebounds by Colleen O'Hara.  Junior Kellie Walsh added eight points and six boards.

              UMass Dartmouth had four players in double figures.  Junior Colleen Moriarty led the way with 23 points, senior Stephanie Houtman added 13 points, freshman Kelsey Garrity finished with 10 points and sophomore Erika Bornemann registered a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 18 rebounds.

              The Corsairs held the Panthers to a stingy two of 16 from behind the arc and out-rebounded PSU, 52-49.

              UMass Dartmouth will return to action Tuesday when they host Johnson & Wales. Plymouth State will take time off for final exams and the holidays and visit Johnson & Wales January 5th.
