PSU Women’s Hoop drops finale at Western Conn.
Corliss tops Panthers with 12 points off the bench
DANBURY, Conn. – Junior Carly Murphy led the Western Connecticut State University women's basketball team with 14 points and 16 rebounds Saturday afternoon as the Colonials knocked off Plymouth State University, 65-40, in the Little East Conference women's basketball regular season finale at Feldman Arena.
Freshman Melissa DiNino, sophomore Caroline Brasa, and freshman Amber Litwinko also scored in double figures for the Colonials with 13, 12, and 10 points, respectively.
Sophomore Krystin Corliss led Plymouth State with 12 points and four rebounds off the bench.
Western finishes the regular season at 16-9 and earns the fourth seed of the upcoming Little East Conference Tournament with a 8-6 league mark. The Colonials will play host to UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday at 7 pm. PSU winds up the season at 5-19 overall and 1-13 in conference play.
The Colonials jumped out to the early lead when Brasa made one of her two three-pointers on the afternoon. Western pulled away, extending their lead to as many as 24 points, 30-6, with eight minutes remaining in the first half.
The Panthers chipped away at the deficit in the final minutes of the half, but the two teams headed into the locker with Western up 34-17.
The second half played out much like the first as the Colonials dominated play, extending their lead to as many as 27 points, 58-31 advantage at the 6:02 mark of the final stanza.
Plymouth State again chipped away at the lead but the Western offense proved to be too much as the final buzzer sounded with the Colonials walking away with the 65-40 win.
