PSU Women’s Basketball upended at Castleton

Corliss continues high scoring for Panthers

              CASTLETON, Vt. – The Castleton women's basketball team outscored Plymouth State University by 22 points in the second half Tuesday night to cruise to a 82-48victory on a non-conference game at Glenbrook Gymnasium.

              Junior Alyssa Leonard scored a team-high 15 points with five rebounds for the Spartans and was one of three players in double figures. Senior Kelly Conway and freshman Stephanie Linder each added 11, with Linder also recording four rebounds, three steals and two assists. Liz Douglass came off the bench to swipe a game-high six steals to go with nine points and three assists.

              Plymouth State was led by junior Krystin Corliss, who poured in a team-high 15 points. Senior Katie Seraikas (Concord, N.H.) added six points, seven rebounds and four blocked shots in the loss.

              Castleton got out to a slow start, trailing 6-4, before a three by Leonard gave the Spartans a 7-6 advantage. The Panthers tied it up at 13, but Castleton scored nine straight to grab a22-13 advantage. PSU pulled within three, but the Spartans eventually stretched their lead to 40-28 at the half.

              The second half was all Castleton as the team outscored the Panthers 21-6 over the first eight minutes of play, including 10 straight points to finish the run, pushing the Spartan advantage to 63-34.

              The Panthers, 1-2, will play next Tuesday against Rivier College in the Boys & Girls Club Classic in Concord, N.H., hosted by NHTI.  Castleton, 3-0, hosts Middlebury next Tuesday at 7 pm.
