Corliss nets career-high 30 points for Panthers

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Sophomores Kristin Brice (Indiana, Penn.) and Catherine Cloutier (Methuen, Mass./Londonderry) combined for 37 points and 20 rebounds Tuesday evening as Emerson College defeated Plymouth State University, 70-56, in non-conference women's basketball action  at Foley Gym.

Brice scored a team-high 19 points and collected seven rebounds for Emerson while Cloutier contributed a double-double with 18 points and a team-high 13 rebounds, converting 8-of-11 shots from the field.  Freshman Kelsey Johnson (Syracuse, N.H.) also chipped in with nine points for the Lions.

The outcome spoiled a terrific night for PSU junior Krystin Corliss (Loudon, N.H./Merrimack Valley), who tossed in a career-high 30 points and accounted for more than half of her team's scoring.  She made 13-of-24 shots from the field.  Junior Meghan Faretra (Bow, N.H./Tilton School) also chipped in with 10 points for the Panthers.

Emerson jumped out to an 11-point lead midway through the first half, only to see PSU battle back to tie the score at 27-all with just under three minutes to play.  Senior Amy Sherman (Toronto, Ont.) hit a three-pointer with 22 seconds on the clock to give the Lions a 30-27 lead at the break.  Corliss had 13 points for PSU while playing all 20 minutes of the opening half.

The second half was tightly contested for the first 11 minutes of the second half, with six lead changes and the scored tied at 48-apiece with nine minutes remaining.  Emerson outscored PSU 18-2 over the next five minutes to open up a 16-point margin with 3:37 to play, and PSU couldn't come back in the final three minutes. Brice had nine of Emerson's 18 points in the rally, while Cloutier added four.

PSU, 1-7 overall, wraps up the semester Saturday with a non-conference game at Lyndon State College.  Emerson returns to action on Dec. 29-30 with a pair of games at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in Claremont, Calif.
