Panthers wrap up semester with setback to Hornets
LYNDONVILLE, Vt. – Donna Lawson scored 15 points, grabbed nine rebounds, and blocked four shots Saturday afternoon to lead Lyndon State College to a 61-50 victory over Plymouth State University in non-conference women's basketball action.
Lawson also collected two assists and a steal for the Hornets, who improved to 3-4. Aimee Thompson also scored 10 points off the board for the winners.
Junior Krystin Corliss (Loudon, N.H./Merrimack Valley) and freshman Bry Bennett (Lancaster, N.H.) led the Panthers with 12 points each. Senior Katie Seraikas (Concord, N.H./Bow) added five points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
The home team got off to a strong start, scoring the first nine points of the game. PSU pulled itself together and battled back to tie the game at 16-16 with seven minutes remaining. It was 20-all with 3:00 on the clock when Lyndon rattled off 12 unanswered points to end the half with a 32-20 advantage.
PSU got the deficit down to single digits in the first four minutes of the second half, but Lyndon State pushed the lead back up to 15 points two minutes later, and maintained a comfortable lead the rest of the way.
The Panthers take a break for final exams and the holidays, and will return to action on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, with a non-conference game at Lasell University in Newton, Mass.
