Western Conn. defeats PSU Women’s Basketball

Seraikas tops Panthers with 14 points in LEC setback

DANBURY, Conn. – Four Western Connecticut State University players scored in double digits Saturday afternoon and the Colonials rolled to a 83-39 victory over visiting Plymouth State University in Little East Conference women's basketball action at Feldman Arena.

Senior guard Carly Murphy (Wolcott, Conn.) led all scored with 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the floor.  The Colonials, 10-5 overall and 3-2 in the Little East Conference, shot a season-high 52.4 percent from the floor on the day. Jackie Zilnicki (Riverhead, N.Y.) added 14 points while Caroline Brasa (East Hartford, Conn.) and Nicole Eanniello (Danbury, Conn.) chipped in 13 and 10 points, respectively.

Senior Katie Seraikas (Concord, N.H.) led PSU with 14 points, while junior Krystin Corliss (Barnstead, N.H.) and freshman Hannah Andry (Melrose, Mass.) each contributed six points for the Panthers.

Western never trailed in the game and raced out to a 11-0 advantage following a layup by Zilnicki 3:40 in to the contest. A jumper by Plymouth's Meghan Faretra (Bow, N.H.) trimmed the deficit to nine points 25 seconds later, but PSU never challenged after that.

Both team play LEC intra-state rivals on Tuesday as Western, winners of three in a row, plays host to Eastern Connecticut State University and PSU entertains Keene State College.
