RIC rolls past PSU Women’s Basketball
Slow start dooms Panthers; Corliss scores 13
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Freshman Vandell Andrade (Providence, R.I.) scored a team-high 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds Saturday afternoon as Rhode Island College rolled to a 69-31 victory over Plymouth State University in Little East Conference women's basketball action at Foley Gymnasium.
Junior Cara Paladino (Arlington, Mass.) added 12 points and seven boards for the Anchorwomen, and junior Stephanie Prusko (Lincoln, R.I.) contributed 11 points. RIC improved to 11-5 overall and 5-2 in the Little East.
The Anchorwomen used a stifling defense in the first half, jumping out to an 11-0 lead while holding PSU off the scoreboard for the first six minutes. Despite the slow start, PSU was down only 11-4 midway through the frame, but RIC rattled off 11 more unanswered points to open up a 22-4 margin.
The visitors went on to lead 38-9 at the break as PSU managed to make just 2-of-22 shots from the field in the first half while RIC converted 57 percent (15-of-26).
Plymouth State did not give up in the second half and hung tough against the big deficit. The Panthers were outscored by their opponents by just one point (17-16) in the first 14 minutes after the intermission but couldn't dig out of the first-half hole.
Both teams play LEC games on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. as PSU visits the University of Southern Maine and Rhode Island College hosts Western Connecticut State University.
