Perry leads Panthers with 15 points
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Sophomore Jill Ritrosky (Pittsfield, Mass.) poured in a season-high 27 points and collected game-high 12 rebounds Saturday afternoon to lead Eastern Connecticut State University to a 59-38 victory over Plymouth State University in a Little East Conference women's basketball game at Foley Gymnasium.
Ritrosky made 10-of-16 shots from the field to lead the Warriors, and grabbed six of her 12 rebounds off the offensive glass. She was supported by freshman Jordyn Nappi (Southington, Conn.), who scored 12 points. Eastern won its fourth straight game to improve to 8-3 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
The Panthers were led by sophomore Taylor Perry (Simsbury, Conn.), who scored a team-high 15 points, including seven points from the free throw line. Senior Krystin Corliss (Loudon, N.H.) added nine points and three steals for the Panthers, who dropped to 0-9 overall and 0-2 in the Little East.
It was a one-point game (9-8) midway through the first half when the Warriors went on a 13-3 run over a seven-minute span. Ritrosky had six points and sophomore Erin Brooks (Billerica, Mass.) added five for Eastern in the run as the Warriors opened up an 11-point lead, 22-11.
PSU came alive in the last three minutes of the half, holding the visitors scoreless while running off six unanswered points. Corliss hit a bucket and Perry drained a pair of shots to help PSU cut the deficit to five points at the break, 22-17.
The Panthers pulled to within three points twice early in the second half after baskets by Corliss and senior Kait Deering (Sidney, Maine), but an 8-1 burst by Eastern pushed the margin back up to double-digits, 32-22. The Panthers were within six points (34-28) with 11 minutes remaining, and within eight points with eight minutes to go, but the Warriors rallied with a 15-4 run over the next six minutes to put the game away.
PSU will look to put a mark in the win column this Tuesday with a non-conference home game against Johnson State College (5:30 p.m.) Eastern returns home to host Saint Joseph College (Conn.) Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.
